His mortar shots hit both eardrums of a police officer. This Wednesday, a man was placed in pre-trial detention for violence committed against the police during a Ligue 2 match between Reims and Laval. The individual, aged 36, is suspected of having fired fireworks at five police officers in one of the parking lots of the Auguste-Delaune stadium.
This Thursday, the Reims public prosecutor François Schneider gave more details on the identity of this man. As relayed by Ici Reims, he is part of the MesOs group, hooligans who often occupy the stands in Reims and who display a neo-Nazi ideology.
A full criminal record
His criminal record is already extensive. He was notably convicted of aggravated violence and domestic violence. He was also already known for throwing fireworks during a football match in 2016. Very drunk at the time of the incident on Monday, the accused also threatened the police, shouting: “I’m going to burn you”. A police officer suffers from deafness, perhaps permanent.
After the incidents, the group of Ultrem supporters, different from the MesOs, had assumed its “share of responsibility”, “without condoning that an entire group be condemned in the public square for the isolated act of a single individual”. The Stade de Reims had condemned the violence, judging it “in total contradiction with the values that (the) club has always defended”.
