Sergio Reguilón will play alongside Lionel Messi next season. As MLS champions Inter Miami announced, the left-back was signed on a free transfer until the end of 2027 with an option until 2028. Reguilón had been without a club since his contract with Tottenham Hotspur ended in the summer. With a market value of 5 million euros, the 28-year-old was one of the most valuable clubless players in the world. He will succeed Jordi Alba, who is retiring.
“It’s a very ambitious project, a successful club that does things right, and that’s what appealed to me: to come here to keep winning and assert myself,” said Reguilón, who will take one of the eight possible places for foreigners in the squad. “My goal is to keep winning, get the trophies we are still missing and win everything here.” So far in his career, the Madrilenian native has celebrated victory in the Europa League with Sevilla FC and the Club World Cup with Real Madrid.
Reguilón will appear alongside Messi for the first time at Inter Miami next year; so far he has only faced him four times. In addition to the US champion, he is said to have had offers from LaLiga and Iran from Persepolis, which offered a salary of up to 4 million euros, but the Spaniard is said to have decided early on that he only wanted to move to Miami.
