The future of Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid is strongly agitating the Spanish press, and the reception of Manchester City could well represent his last chance.
While Zinedine Zidane regularly comes up in conversations, Mark now evokes an expanded list of potential candidates to take over the Merengue bench in the event of the departure of the Spanish coach.
Raúl on pole, but the competition exists
In addition to Zidane and Jürgen Klopp, two profiles very popular with supporters, Madrid is studying internal avenues with Álvaro Arbeloa, today at the head of Castilla, and Raúl González, club icon and former reserve coach. Their in-depth knowledge of Real Madrid and how it works works in their favor. Two other names are also circulating: Ange Postecoglou, who played for Tottenham and Nottingham Forest, as well as Erik ten Hag, free after his stints at Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen.
But among all these candidates, Raúl appears to be the natural favorite. His legend in Madrid, his link with training and the immediate respect he inspires in the public make him an obvious option if management decides to turn the page on Alonso.
