Quinten Timber was recently criticized for the lack of clarity about his situation at Feyenoord. The midfielder has now changed that. At the press conference in the run-up to the meeting with FCSB in the Europa League, he discussed his future with the Rotterdam team.
Timber has been a hot topic since last summer. The midfielder has an expiring contract with Feyenoord and seemed well on his way to leaving. That transfer did not materialize, but the same applies to a contract extension. As a result, Robin van Persie took away the captaincy from him. Timber still spoke out about his contract and stated that he would enter into discussions with Dennis te Kloese.
However, things have remained quiet since then. Timber suddenly came under great criticism. During the match against PEC Zwolle, Het Legioen made it clear to him that he had to make himself heard. After the match, coach Van Persie indicated that he would urge Timber to give more interviews. In the meantime, there is plenty of speculation about whether or not the midfielder will leave on a transfer-free basis.
Quinten Timber speaks out
The message appears to have been clear for Quinten Timber. The midfielder has now made himself heard. “There have indeed been fewer interviews from me. It is not that I said that I did not want to do interviews. I was first captain and then I had to do it every weekend, but that is a lot less now anyway. There have been fewer interviews because there was the feeling that it would not be about football, but mainly about the contract situation. There have been times when I wanted to do it, but was not asked by the press. That was last weekend, for example,” he said at the press conference in the run-up to the match against FCSB.
“The coach was also a footballer himself and has experienced these kinds of situations, so we had a good discussion about it. The noise is part of it. Fans make their emotions heard. As a human being, that is sometimes difficult and I have been playing here with all my love for three and a half years. I have always worked hard and all I can do is keep doing that. I hope I will be appreciated for that,” Timber continues.
That appears to be not the only thing the midfielder has something to say about. Timber also discusses his future at Feyenoord. “My focus is now on tomorrow’s match. I know that there are discussions and they are still positive. I don’t know what will happen, but I have every confidence that my agents and Feyenoord will find a solution. I think it will be nice for everyone if there is clarity,” he concludes with a major announcement.
