We know the attraction of the Costa Brava for professional cycling teams, who come every year to ski the Catalan tarmac before the start of the season, between December and February. Because the roads are beautiful, the sun and the mildness often generous. But the Pyrénées-Orientales will perhaps soon have nothing to envy of their southern neighbor in terms of attractiveness. This is evidenced by the Terre de Vélo labels obtained in mid-November by the Pays Pyrénées-Mediterranean and Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole. Territories which bring together the intercommunalities of the south of the department and the agglomeration of Perpignan.
Issued by the Occitanie region, this label recognizes both the quality of the routes offered for cyclists and the equipment made available to them. And there is something for all tastes and all thighs, whether they are used to the asphalt of small or large roads, or to the stones of the paths.
What to visit, where to stay…
There are walks along the seaside, others connecting towns, others enjoying themselves, sometimes deep in the foothills of Canigó, and sometimes in the unfathomable folds of the Côtes du Roussillon vineyards.
Mountain biking, road cycling, cycling, walking… All practices are covered to allow a gentle first approach to the territories. And there’s no question of being lost or blocked by a technical problem: the label includes accommodation, bike rental companies and good places to eat, but also all the points of interest, heritage sites and curiosities which will definitely be worth a detour.
A good idea to start by eliminating the heavy traces of the end of the year festivities?
