He Pumarín Basketball Clubwith the support of Gijón Municipal Sports Board (PDM)will celebrate the next December 26, 27 and 28 the V edition of its Christmas Tournamenta quote already consolidated as the largest grassroots basketball tournament in northern Spain and the largest held to date in Asturias.
The tournament was presented this Monday at the Press Room of the Gijón City Councilin an event organized by the PDM, which supports this initiative promoted by the club itself. The competition will take place simultaneously in six headquarters spread throughout the city: Gijón Sur, Mata Jove, La Arena, Sports Palace, La Tejerona and Perchera La Braña.
In this fifth edition, the tournament will bring together more than 1,000 playersdistributed in 90 teamswho will attend accompanied by their families, turning the event into an authentic grassroots basketball festival and an important sports and social promoter for the city during the Christmas season.
The CB Pumarín Christmas Tournament will feature the participation of teams from five autonomous communities: Galicia, Asturias, Castilla y León and Cantabriabringing together some of the quarries with the greatest tradition and prestige on the national scene. In the men’s category, clubs such as workshop y Basketball Coruñain addition to historical records of formative basketball such as Solar o Kingdom of Leon. In the women’s category, the tournament will have the presence of references such as BF Leon o Lionessamong others.
The Councilor for Education and Sports and president of the PDM, Jorge Pañedaunderlined the relevance achieved by the event: “In 2025, the Gijón Christmas Tournament will definitively consolidate itself as a essential event on the national grassroots basketball calendar”.
With this fifth edition, the Pumarín Basketball Club reaffirms its commitment to sports trainingthe promotion of values and the growth of grassroots basketball, placing Gijón as one of the great references for educational sports in Spain during Christmas.
