Gerard Piqué makes his return to professional football at FC Andorra. The 38-year-old defender returns three years after his retirement as a player at the club he owns. This is reported by the Andorran broadcaster RTVA.
The former Spain international has been close to selection in the past period, but has now finally made the decision. FC Andorra sees Piqué as a sporting and symbolic reinforcement for the second half of the season. The club plays in the Segunda División and is having a mixed season. It is in thirteenth place in the Spanish second division.
Piqué retired from professional football at FC Barcelona in 2022, where he played most of his career. He won nine national titles and the Champions League three times. With Spain he became world champion and European champion. Since his retirement, he has remained active in football as an entrepreneur and club director.
According to RTVA, Piqué can make his return on January 4 in the away match against AD Ceuta. He would use part of his salary to pay outstanding club fines. FC Andorra hopes that his experience and leadership will give the team a boost in the competition.
