Piotr Lisek’s transition to MMA is not going as well as expected. The world pole vault vice-champion, silver medalist in 2017 ahead of Renaud Lavillenie, suffered a violent knockout this Saturday during a KSW event in Poland. While he had one victory since his arrival in the discipline, the Pole was largely beaten in the first round by his compatriot Adam Josef.
The sequence of the latter was devastating. After a first left hook, he followed up with an uppercut, another hook, another uppercut then finally a knee strike which dried Piotr Lisek. On the ground, the pole vaulter took two more right hooks before finally collapsing and the referee stopping the massacre. He therefore lost his second fight, carried out under special rules with a weight limit set at 100 kg.
At 33, Piotr Lisek has not stopped his career as a pole vaulter. 15th at the Paris Olympic Games last summer, he participated again in the World Championships in Tokyo this year with a 13th place finish. However, he is now far from his personal best, established in 2019 with a bar of 6.02 m. He fights in parallel in MMA, with a first fight won at Fame in September 2023. His 2nd duel went less well.
On Instagram, the Pole reacted quickly. “Short but intense! Thank you for being there with me, thank you for understanding my character as a fighter, he wrote. Next time I will ask for more than three weeks of preparation. »
