An award that rewards an entire life dedicated to basketball. The Italian Basketball Federation awarded coach Pierpaolo Carbone the title of “Meritorious Coach”, one of the highest federal honours, approved by the Federal Council at its meeting on 24 November.
The official communication bears the signature of the president Giovanni Petrucci, who in his letter underlines how the nomination represents “the recognition of your work in favor of the development and image of basketball”. A certificate that is not only formal, but which intends to express the gratitude of the FIP for the commitment, competence and dedication that Carbone has demonstrated in over forty years of technical and training activity.
Petrucci concludes the letter with a message of esteem and closeness: “In offering my heartfelt congratulations, I welcome the opportunity to send you cordial greetings.” Words that seal a professional and human journey that has left a profound mark on the Calabrian and national basketball movement.
The sporting history of Pierpaolo Carbone is a journey lasting more than four decades, which began in 1983 with the qualification of Student Coach and continued with constant growth, made up of benches, promotions, playoffs, training and institutional responsibilities.
The main stages of his technical career: 1983–1990 – Obtains the federal qualifications of Student Coach and Coach.
– 1990s – Leads teams in the Serie D, Serie B/2 and Serie B/1 championships, in particular with AS Basket Rende and CB Cosenza, contributing to the development of Cosenza basketball.
– 2001–2003 – He leads Rende and MC Cosenza to win the Serie D championships and reaches Serie C/2.
– 2004–2010 – Protagonist in the National Serie C with MC Basket Cosenza, AS Rosarno 2000 and C. Bk Cosenza, reaching the playoffs several times.
– 2011 – Coach in the Women’s Serie B with Pallacanestro Rende.
– 2012–2020 – Long technical cycle with Bim Bum Rende in Serie C Silver.
– 2021–2022 – Leads the team in Serie C Gold.
– 2023–2025 – Coach of the Interregional Serie B with Bim Bum Rende.
Institutional roles and training activities
– President of the Calabria Regional Coaches Commission (2009–2016).
– 2nd level territorial trainer (since 2012).
– Provincial coordinator of the CONI Sports Introduction Centers (1995–2001).
– Trainer in numerous FIP courses for Student Coach, Basic Coach and Minibasketball.
– Continuous participation in PAO-FIP courses throughout Italy.
– Trainer at federal exams and in the Federal Technical Centers of Calabria.
– Technician in the national Sport and Health projects – Junior Active School (2024–2025).

The nomination as “Meritorious Coach” is not only a personal recognition, but a tribute to the contribution that Carbone has given to the growth of the Calabrian basketball movement: from the training of young coaches to the valorization of local talents, up to the construction of a recognized and respected technical identity.
His career bears witness to a passion that has never faded and which continues today, with the same energy as the beginning, at the service of basketball and the new generations.
