Pesic to Bayern Munich: Serbian Coach Takes Helm

Pesic, 76 years old and Serbia’s national coach until last summer, already led the Bavarian team from 2012 to 2016 and under his leadership they won their first German Bundesliga title in 2014.

In the Balkan’s extensive career, the 2002 World Cup title with the former Yugoslavia, the 1993 European Championship victory with Germany (and also with Yugoslavia in 2001) and a treble in Spain, including the Euroleague victory with Barcelona in 2003, stand out.

With Alba Berlin, he won five championships and two cups and in 2024 he won the Olympic bronze medal with Serbia.

«Svetislav knows Munich, Bayern and both leagues; some of us also know it very well, so your adjustment period should be short. That, together with his enormous experience, makes us feel very good about this decision,” stressed the sporting director of the Bavarian team, Dragan Tarlac, on the club’s website.

The Serbian coach introduced himself to the team this Monday and then appeared at a press conference and tomorrow he will lead the German team in the Euroleague clash at home against the leader, Hapoel Tel Aviv.
