Perfect Comeback: Inspiring Stories & Strategies

Alphonso Davies returns to the Bayern squad after a long injury break. The Canadian is already making his comeback against Sporting.

What Bayern coach Vincent Kompany suggested on Monday came true: Alphonso Davies was back in the FC Bayern squad on Tuesday and even made his comeback in the Champions League game against Sporting Lisbon (from 6:45 p.m. in LIVETICKER) after a 262-day injury break.

In the 88th minute, the Canadian came on as a substitute for Serge Gnabry – and the stadium celebrated him.

Davies is celebrating a comeback at FC Bayern

“We’re all happy that he can help us further this season. Today it’s not necessarily his role to win the game. The other boys have to do that, but at some point he’ll be very important for us again,” Kompany said before the game DAZN said about Davies.

Sometimes you forget “how difficult it is, mentally too. He did everything physically to get back fit. He often looked as if he hadn’t been injured at all. He will come back strong.”

Long suffering ended for Davies after cruciate ligament tear

Davies seriously injured his right knee while playing for the Canadian national team against the USA on March 23rd, including a torn cruciate ligament.

The left-back played his last competitive game for Bayern on March 15th against Union Berlin. Davies returned to Bayern team training in mid-November.

“There is a possibility that he will be in the squad,” Kompany said at the press conference on Monday. “If the game is as close as I think it is,” added the Bayern coach, Davies “probably won’t get a minute.” In the end, the Canadian was still allowed to play in Bayern’s 3-1 win.
