Bangkok: Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI) Erick Thohir continues to provide motivation to Thailand’s 2035 SEA Games athletes. One of the things Menpora Erick visited was the pencak silat sport at Impact Arena, Bangkok, Thailand, Saturday (13/12) morning.
Arriving at the location, Menpora Erick immediately greeted the coaches and athletes who were going to compete. The Minister of Youth and Sports gave encouragement because pencak silat is one of the leading sports that has the potential to contribute gold medals. Moreover, at the previous SEA Games, Cambodia managed to become the overall champion.
Minister of Youth and Sports Erick also witnessed the men’s single arts competition which pitted Indonesian fighter Syarif Hidayatullah against Brunei Darussalam, and the men’s team arts event against Malaysia.
“This morning I visited a pencak silat competition, met our proud silat fighters and watched them compete directly. I appreciate the preparation of our silat fighters which is very thorough and the results seen earlier in their actions in the arena attracted the admiration of the audience,” said Minister of Youth and Sports Erick.
“Of course, this cannot be separated from the full support of the General Chairperson of PB IPSI, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, who always advises athletes to focus and be serious about preparing themselves to represent the nation at the SEA Games this time. We are optimistic that the golden potential of pencak silat can be realized,” added Menpora Erick.
According to Menpora Erick, pencak silat itself has extraordinary achievements in the international sports arena. Even when Indonesia hosted the 2018 Asian Games, the pencak silat sport dominated the gold medals and succeeded in becoming the overall champion.
In the future, Menpora Erick and PB IPSI will continue to collaborate and encourage pencak silat to be competed again at the Asian Games. “The enthusiasm of the silat fighters is extraordinary to maintain the tradition of overall champions at the SEA GAMES as in the previous event in Cambodia. Pencak silat is more than just a sport, it is a genuine Indonesian cultural value and national pride,” said Minister of Youth and Sports Erick.
“Currently, the Ministry of Youth and Sports together with PB IPSI are trying to compete in pencak silat again at the Asian Games, after the last time it was competed in multi-events throughout Asia in 2018. Please support the Indonesian people, we will bring pencak silat to the world,” concluded Minister of Youth and Sports Erick. (amr)
