Paolo Cianfrini (Livorno, 23 May 1942 – 24 October 2022) was an Italian basketball coach.
He coached Barcas-Libertas Livorno, Virtus Ragusa, Pallacanestro Livorno, between Serie A (as assistant) and the youth sector. A meritorious coach, he received the FIP Bronze Plaque of Honor in 2010. He was president of the National Coaches Committee of Tuscany and National Trainer at CNA courses[1].
In Ragusa he won the 1969-1970 Serie C[2]. He achieved various other promotions with smaller teams[3].
He won two youth championships, one Cadet and one Junior, in the period in which he was responsible for the youth sector in Pistoia and sports director in San Giovanni Valdarno[4]. He also won four with Pallacanestro Livorno – with sixteen participations in the national finals between 1981 and 2001[5]including the 1982-1983 cadet championship[6].
In Serie A he was assistant to Mauro Di Vincenzo and Giancarlo Sacco. Technical director of Galli and convinced promoter of the recruitment and development of young people. His career, which began in Libertas and developed between Ragusa, Livorno, Pistoia and San Giovanni Valdarno, made him a direct witness of some of the most significant moments in Livorno’s basketball history, including the successes in the 1980s with Pielle and the decisive challenges against Varese. Cianfrini is remembered for his dedication to training and for the vision, still current, of an Italian basketball founded on the nursery and on the growth of local talents[7].
He was among the promoters of the Polisportiva Elba ’97[8].
