Palmeiras & Ibañez: Transfer Hurdles Revealed

In search of a defender on the market, the Palm trees consulted the situation of Roger Ibañez, as reported by ESPN. The amounts needed for a possible deal with Al Ahli, from Saudi Arabia, however, made any progress for the 27-year-old player unfeasible.

According to the ESPNthe Saudis’ request for the formerFluminense is 25 million euros (more than R$163 million at current prices), which would make him, for example, one of the most expensive signings in the history of Palmeiras, on the same level as Vitor Roque – who is a striker and younger.

Ibañez’s salary at Al Ahli is also very high. The value of a possible return to Brazil, of course, would not be at the same level, but the reduction would need to be significant, as he receives around 10 million euros per season (more than R$65 million).

The figure represents around R$5 million per month at the current price, which exceeds, for example, what Palmeiras pays to Abel Ferreira – approximately R$3 million.

Ibañez was one of Al Ahli’s biggest signings, which took him out of Romafrom Italy, at a great time, when he was being called up, for example, for the Brazilian team.

The defender began his professional career in Brazil with Fluminense and went to Europe in 2019, for the Atalantaalso from Italy, for 4 million euros. Roma then paid almost 10 million euros to sign him after a loan period that began in 2020.
