According to “insider” Jake FischerIndiana would have looked into the matter Daniel Gafford. In search of a starting pivot since the surprise departure of Myles Turner towards Milwaukee, the Pacers are actively exploring the market and the Mavericks player would be one of their priority targets.
In Dallas, Daniel Gafford is averaging 8.9 points and 6.4 rebounds in 23 minutes this season. A solid pick-and-roll finisher, capable of protecting the circle and quickly moving up the field, he would present an interesting profile to accompany Tyrese Haliburton… when the leader recovers from his ruptured Achilles tendon.
Under contract for several more seasons, since it was extended last summer, the pivot is nevertheless considered one of the most “transferable” elements of the Texan workforce. This is because the franchise would consider a profound remodeling of its “roster” and would also listen to offers concerning other veterans,Anthony Davis has Klay Thompson passing through D’Angelo Russell.
It remains to be seen whether Indiana will follow through on the matter. With several attractive contracts and a few Draft choices in reserve, the Pacers have what it takes to put together a competitive offer. But competition could heat up for Daniel Gafford, one of the few available interiors capable of having an immediate impact in the race for the playoffs.
