The extensionist Rafa Nadal has had to undergo surgery to undergo surgery on a hand due to a condition he had been suffering from for some years. The athlete himself has shared with his followers an image in which he appears with his arm in a sling, dressed in cream colors and with a cap, and has explained the reasons why he had to have surgery.
Rafa Nadal wanted to inform his followers of his situation, trusting that he will recover soon: “I have had to undergo an intervention on the hand for a problem that had been going on for years, but I hope to be well soon,” he wrote next to the photo. In addition, he joked: “I think I won’t be able to play the Australian Open in January.”
A humorous comment, since the 14-time Roland Garros champion retired a little over a year ago. Definitively hanging up his racket was, for him, a “difficult decision”, as he stated then, stressing that it was the “right time”. “It has been a much more successful career than I could have ever imagined,” he declared in his farewell announcement.
According to the EFE agency, the operation was carried out at the Teknon Medical Center in Barcelona. A surgery on the right hand known as arthroplasty due to a “severe osteoarthritis of the trapezio-metacarpal joint” that joins the base of the thumb to the wrist, between the trapezius bone and the first metacarpal.
In his recovery, Rafa Nadal has the best support: his family, the one he formed with Mery Perelló and which makes him so happy. On August 7, they welcomed their second child in Palma de Mallorca.born at the Quirónsalud Palmaplanas Hospital. A boy they named Miquel, a moving tribute to Mery’s father, who died in April 2023 at the age of 63 after a long illness.
Rafa Nadal and Mery Perelló were already parents of little Rafa, their first-born, who turned three years old last October. A family that is, for the former tennis player, his priority more than ever, as he himself confessed in these words: “I have always loved children, but now I have other types of responsibilities. I always thought that when I retired from tennis I would play golf four days a week, because I love it, but in reality I only play two because I also like to be with my son. I want to spend time at home and go pick up the child from school.“.
