Ondrej Footballer Dies: Accident & Tributes (†35)

VINOHRADY NAD VÁHOM – Slovak football has been hit by extremely sad news. In a serious traffic accident, a 35-year-old player of a lower competition, who was a part of regional football for many years, lost his life. The tragedy left a deep mark not only in his club, but also among friends and teammates.

The accident happened on Wednesday, December 3 in the evening on the road between the villages of Vinohrady nad Váhom and Dvorníky. According to the findings so far, the driver of the car went off the road without braking and hit a tree.

“According to preliminary information, the driver of the Audi vehicle had, for reasons not yet determined, smoothly, without braking, went off the road in the opposite direction and hit a tree. As a result of the impact, the vehicle caught fire. Unfortunately, the driver in the vehicle succumbed to his injuries,” the Trnava regional police informed.

The impact was extremely strong, the vehicle caught fire after the collision. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. According to available information, the accident had an extremely dramatic course, while the vehicle’s engine was supposed to fly out completely after the impact. In connection with the tragic event, the police initiated criminal prosecution for the crime of murder.

Touching words of the club

35-year-old football player Ondrej Penciak, a player of OŠK Vinohrady nad Váhom, who played in the 7th league of ObFZ Galanta, lost his life in the accident. His parent club also reacted to the sudden loss of a teammate. Vinohrady nad Váhom Elementary School published an emotional message on the social network that describes the atmosphere in the cabin after the tragedy.

“December 3rd is etched in our hearts as the day our teammate and friend left. Since then, it’s hard to believe that you won’t be standing next to us, laughing and fighting for every point… You brought joy, determination and friendship to the team that cannot be replaced. You were reliable on the field, always ready to perform and support the team.” said the club.

“May you find peace up there – and may your star shine bright for us to see always. Rest in peace.” added the club. Ondrej was also remembered by his former teammates and friends. One of them wrote a short but to the point message: “My friend, it was an honor to play with you. Rest in peace.”

“All the circumstances under which the tragic vehicle collision occurred will be subject to further investigation and expert examination,” added the policemen.
