Oklahoma City Thunder: Historic Season Run – RDS

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder have another date with history in the coming months.

Oklahoma City began its title defense with a 24-1 record, tying the Golden State Warriors’ 2015 record for best start to a season after 25 games.

A crushing 138-89 victory over the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Cup quarterfinals gave the franchise its record 16th consecutive victory and put this young team in the history books for good.

The Warriors turned their 24-0 start to 2015-16 into a 73-9 masterpiece that redefined expectations for what a modern superteam could accomplish.

This year, the Thunder, thanks to their dominant victories, appear to be on their way to redefining that standard of excellence.

Here are some notable statistics:

Point spread

The Thunder are even more dominant this season than last season, when they recorded the largest point differential in NBA history with 12.9 points per game.

The crushing 39-point victory over the Suns brought the Thunder’s point difference this season to 17.5 points per game, which is by far the largest margin ever in the league after 25 games. Boston had outscored its opponents by an average of 13.9 points during the first 25 games of the 2007-2008 season.

Lots of crushing victories

Wednesday’s win was Oklahoma City’s 17th by 10 or more points this season. Only Boston has done better in history, winning 19 times by double-digit margins in the first 25 games of the 2007-2008 season.

Biggest lead

Chris Youngblood’s 3-pointer at 5:25 of the 4th quarter Wednesday night gave the Thunder a 128-78 lead. It was the first time a team led by 50 points in the NBA this season.

Oklahoma City would then lead by 53 points.

The Thunder’s largest lead in a regular season game last season was 44 points. However, they led by 49 and 56 points in the playoff games that led them to the title last season.

The best seasons in history

After winning 36 of their first 38 games of the season in 2025-2026, the Golden State Warriors experienced a slight decline at the end of the season to finally finish the campaign with a record of 73-9 to beat the mark of the 1996 Bulls who had recorded 72 victories.
