We know that Shohei Ohtani is a record-breaking machine. And not just on the ground.
Indeed, une carte unique Topps Chrome MVP Award Gold MLB Logoman 2025 was auctioned by Fanatics Collect and sold for exactly three million dollars after 69 bids. The auction concluded at 10 p.m. Friday evening (Quebec time). This is a record for the most expensive map of Nippon ever sold at auction.
The previous record was made earlier this year for another autographed card with a patch of the MLB logo that Ohtani wore on his pants when he hit home runs numbers 49, 50 and 51 in his 2024 season against the Miami Marlins.
It was then that he became the first player in history to hit 50 long balls and steal 50 bases in a single season. It was one of the greatest offensive performances in major league baseball history.
This card sold for $1,067,000 through Heritage Auctions.
Coincidentally, the 2025 Topps card also includes a patch of a game against Miami, when the Japanese had a walk, stole a base and scored two runs in a game won by the Los Angeles Dodgers by a score of 15 to 2 on April 29. Ohtani hit a home run early in the game on Sandy Alcantara’s first pitch.
It now remains to be seen which card from the star hitter and pitcher will break a new record.
