Nice Ends Winless Streak: Coupe de France Victory vs. Saint-Étienne

A clearing before 2026 for Nice. In an Allianz Riviera which sounded very empty due to the closed session, the Aiglons avoided reaching the terrible figure of ten consecutive defeats and therefore stopped at nine losses in a row. Nice ends its very complicated year 2025 with a good note by eliminating AS Saint-Étienne, 2nd in Ligue 2, in the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France this Sunday.

In the midst of a crisis, the Aiglons had not won since October 29 and a 2-0 home success against Lille in Ligue 1. Worse, they had since suffered nine consecutive defeats in all competitions: six in the league, including the first in their series against PSG (1-0), and three in the league phase of the Europa League, from which they were eliminated.

Marseille unfolded

Against the Stéphanois, Nice opened the scoring in the eleventh minute thanks to Zoumana Diallo, but they collapsed at the very end of the first period by conceding a penalty, converted by Zuriko Davitashvili (44th). It was finally necessary to wait until the last twenty minutes for the Aiglons to regain the advantage on a recovery from Morgan Sanson (72nd). They held on until the end of the match, despite ASSE’s clear shooting domination (17 shots against 8).

In the other matches of the afternoon, Auxerre became the second Ligue 1 team to exit straight away after their defeat (2-1) against Monaco, another resident of the French elite. Friday, it was Brest who were surprised on penalties by Avranches (1-1, 5 tab to 4). OM never doubted against Bourg-en-Bresse (0-6), Strasbourg defeated Dunkirk (2-1), while Nantes ended up beating Concarneau in an eight-goal match (3-5).
