NHL Record: 18 Swedish Goals in One Night

Pretty much every night during the winter months you can read about Swedish goal scorers in the NHL.
But last night the NHL Swedes broke the all-time record.

There are Swedes in the NHL. Last night they set a collective record – when a total of 18 goals were scored by Swedish-born players – on the same day.

Marcus Johansson scored two for the Minnesota Wild, otherwise 16 other Swedes scored goals.

This if you take the liberty of including the Swedish-born Finnish forward Oliver Kapanen.

The full list of top scorers

Otherwise, there was a lot to keep track of.

Because here are all the other Swedish goal scorers:

Erik Karlsson, Filip Forsberg, Alexander Wennberg, John Klingberg, Pontus Holmberg, Jesper Bratt, Leo Carlsson, Simon Holmström, Joel Eriksson Ek, Hampus Lindholm, Elias Lindholm, Mattias Ekholm, Simon Edvinsson, Gabriel Landeskog and Rasmus Dahlin.

It is a record in the NHL – as it has never happened that players from the same nationality outside the USA or Canada have scored so many goals in one and the same day. The previous record was 17 goals by Swedish-born players on December 31, 2022.
