NFL Munich Game: Venue & Details

After much guesswork, it is now clear: the NFL games in Germany in 2026 and 2028 will take place again in Munich. The league refrains from experimenting and does everything right. Also because Munich has shown that it can be the perfect stage. A comment.

Twice Munich, twice Berlin!

The NFL venues in Germany until 2029 have been determined – and football fans in other major German cities are left empty-handed.

The NFL’s decision for the Bavarian capital may seem uninspired at first glance. Finally, according to NFL Germany boss Alexander Steinforth, several other cities have thrown their hat into the ring.

But there are good reasons for returning to the city, which hosted the first NFL game on German soil in 2022 and another game in 2024 – and has what it takes to be the ultimate football party!

Munich is hungry for more sport

The two previous NFL appearances in Munich have already offered a spectacle: the “Sweet Caroline” chants at the premiere three years ago, which brought a breath of fresh air into the International Games dominated by London, will never be forgotten.

Even Tom Brady, who was playing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Munich at the time, was impressed. “That was one of my greatest football experiences,” he enthused after the game.

Two years later, during the duel between the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants, things were turned upside down again outside of the Allianz Arena with two fan zones in well-known places in the city.

The referendum on the city’s Olympic bid at the end of October showed that Munich’s appetite for major sporting events is far from gone. Over 66 percent voted in favor there.

Even after two NFL games, the 2024 European Football Championship games and the 2025 Champions League final, the hunger for top-class sport in the city remains huge.

For the city, in turn, the upcoming events such as the NFL games, games at the 2027 Handball World Cup and the 2029 European Women’s Football Championship are the perfect showcase to improve its chances of hosting the Olympics in 2036, 2040 or 2044.

NFL in Munich: Will there be an Oktoberfest crossover?

But the decision in favor of Munich is also good news for fans outside the city: In addition to Berlin as the relatively northern location in Germany for the 2027 and 2029 games, Munich in the south is a sensible addition.

In addition, the Allianz Arena, with its 75,000 seats, offers a significantly larger capacity than most other German locations. This gives even more fans a chance to see the games live in the stadium.

And then there is the prospect of a very special football party: After the first two NFL Munich Games took place in November, the league is now apparently toying with the ultimate crossover: NFL meets Oktoberfest?

“Oktoberfest is of course a really exciting date,” said Steinforth to “sport.de”. “We have different options on the table and have had good experiences with November in recent years. But in the end nothing has been decided yet and we are currently looking at which week it will take place.”

From the football spectacle to the festival tent – an attractive combination for many. In any case, “Sweet Caroline” is well received there.
