Honor for impressive successes: The city of Neumünster honored special sporting achievements of the past year. Numerous athletes, a team and officials from the Schwalestadt sports scene were honored last Friday in the Holstenhalle.

Tanja Scholz excels in Singapore

Para-swimmer Tanja Scholz from the Neumünster Police Sports Club presented herself very strongly: she swam double gold in the 50 meter breaststroke in the SB2 starting class and the 150 meter individual medley in the SM3 class at the Para World Championships in Singapore. In the 50 meter breaststroke race, she set two new world records in the preliminary run and the main run and raised the new record to 1:00.95 minutes.

German runner-up Blau-Weiß Wittorf

Badminton Bundesliga team Blau-Weiß Wittorf Neumünster once again underlined its strong position in the sport in the Schwalestadt: In addition to the title of Team of the Year for the German runner-up team championship title, a total of seven out of 16 individual honors went to Blau-Weiß. What stands out among many successes is Franziska Volkmann’s German championship title in mixed doubles with Jan Colin Völker (TV Refrath) and Bjarne Geiss’s national runner-up title in doubles alongside Jan Colin Völker. At the continental level, Geiss won bronze medals at the European Mixed Team Championships with Germany.

But the other Neumünster water sports enthusiasts from canoeing and swimming also received numerous honors: North German champion over five kilometers of open water was the 15-year-old Tade Schumann (SG Neumünster). A young quartet from the First Canoe Club, Finley and Ryan-Leroy Kaufmann as well as Levke-Milla Andrees and Johanna Krumm, took part in the German Championships in Cologne. Athlete Matthias Hoffmann (Lebenshilfewerk Neumünster) once again underlined the versatility of Neumünster sport with his first places at the Special Olympics State Games in Lübeck over 5000 and 1500 meters.

What would sport be without officials: Christian Groffmann (SV Tungendorf), Henning Elges (TSV 05 Neumünster) and Hans Walter (SC Gut-Heil Neumünster), who promote sport and its importance in clubs and society through tireless commitment.

“As in previous years, the event was an all-round success and gave everyone the deserved appreciation for strong sporting achievements and commitment shown in a suitable setting,” explained Neele Böckenhauer, head of the administration and sports management department in the culture and sport department of the city of Neumünster.

City councilor Carsten Hillgruber brought the city’s greetings. He emphasized the role of sport and, on behalf of the city, recognized the athletes, a team and several volunteers by honoring them for their achievements and commitment.

Ute Freund, chairwoman of the district sports association (KSV), explained: “This year we have again experienced many impressive successes that fill us with pride. We are here to honor the athletes from a wide range of sports as well as the team of the year and those who have been committed for years for their work and to award the sports fairness prize. You are among the best in our city!” NDR sports editor Lars Bente hosted the evening in an entertaining manner.
