NBA Europe 2027: FIBA Confirms Plans

Organisations. Fiba considers a launch of NBA Europe in October 2027 “realistic”, while warning “that there remains a lot of work”. Andreas Zagklis recalls that the body must “ allow everyone to find their place” in this future framework, while the project still gives rise to reservations and criticism, particularly from the Euroleague. The Secretary General underlines “constructive exchanges »” with the ECA and announces several meetings in 2026 to define the format. Some teams could qualify via the Basketball Champions League or an end-of-season tournament.

The commercial aspects, especially sponsors and TV rights, will only be addressed between the beginning and middle of 2026. The priority remains the sports architecture and the compatibility of the project with the European model. Zagklis assures that he wants to “bring everyone together under one roof”, without this implying total control of Fiba. The development of a joint competition with the NBA must, according to him, “make sense for the entire ecosystem”. (With AFP)
