The third edition of the NBA Cup concludes this week, with the knockout stages before the final next Tuesday, December 16th. This competition, created specifically to boost viewership in December, when NBA ratings typically drop compared to the NFL, fits every regular season game (except the finals) and, while not as prestigious as a conference title, is gaining popularity as a way to decide a “winter champion.”
In fact, last year it was won by the Milwaukee Bucks, who later went on to win the NBA championship. It will be interesting to see in the future how reliable the NBA Cup will be in predicting the future “real” NBA champion (in 2023 it was won by the Los Angeles Lakers, who then lost 4-1 in the first round of the play-offs).
