National Team Coach Search: Trpišovský Deal Fails

“The hiring of Jindřich Trpišovský was one of the options announced by the FAČR when it came to filling the position of coach of the national team,” said chairman David Trunda on the union’s channels. “We made every effort to get him involved for the March meeting, but in the end the club decided not to release their head coach.”

The search is on. Already again.

The national team has currently been without a permanent coach for 59 days. And it is quite uncertain whether she will find him at all in the coming days.

“Jindřich Trpišovský would be a logical and great alternative. He is one of our most experienced and successful coaches and would certainly have undeniable authority with the players and the public,” said national team general manager Pavel Nedvěd. “In addition, he knows the Czech football environment very well and, of course, the individual players. It is a shame that this possibility could not be realized.”

In recent days, the leadership of the association has been focusing on the option that the coach of the current league leader would temporarily take over the national team during the March tie.

At Strahov, they knew very well that this is definitely not an ideal option, but there is a lot at stake!

Advancement to the World Cup, hosted by the United States with Canada and Mexico starting in June.

Trpišovský did not like the idea, but he did not rule it out categorically. After all, even after Saturday’s 4:3 league win over Jablonec, he said at the press conference: “I’ll be happy if it doesn’t concern me.”

He also revealed that he will spend the evening with the owner of Slavia Pavlo Tykač and the chairman of the board Jaroslav Tvrdík. But at the same time, he admitted that he would let himself get used to it. “If the people in football and the team want it, I would consider it. If it was a lot, someone asked you for help and there was no other solution, it’s stupid to say ‘no’. But I believe there are other solutions.”

Trunda and his executive committee colleagues envisioned hiring a foreign coach for the national team. The last time the name of Croat Slaven Bilic appeared in the media. The financial demands of foreigners and their collaborators clearly exceed the union’s financial possibilities.

That is why the emergency variant called Trpišovský was used. She looked meaningful, even though the coach defended her. At the Saturday dinner with Tvrdík and Tykač, it definitely failed.

The representative debate of the most important figures of contemporary Slavia could not be long. After 11 p.m. on Saturday, the football association officially knew that Trpišovský would not be recruited. “We respect this final decision,” Trunda said.

At the beginning of December, he stated that he would like to sign a new national team coach by Christmas. Now it seems unlikely that his pre-Christmas wish will come true.

“Our task now is to find another option in the shortest possible time,” said the head of FAČR. And Nedvěd added: “Our work on hiring a new coach for the national team continues and further negotiations await us.”

The search for a new coach of the national team is in charge of the sports management group, which, in addition to Trunda and Nedvěd, also includes union vice-chairman Zdeněk Grygera. It was recently abandoned by the head of Pilsen, Adolf Šádek, who resigned. It only illustrates how the search for a permanent successor to the recalled Ivan Hašek is grinding.

After the weekend, it will be exactly two months since he was fired.

Czech football continues to search and trample in vain.
