Thomas Müller missed the Major League Soccer (MLS) championship title with the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Canadians around the former German national player unfortunately lost the final against Inter Miami around world champion Lionel Messi 1:3 (0:1). Müller missed out on the 36th title of his career in his debut season in Canada.
In Fort Lauderdale/Florida, Vancouver dominated the game for a long time and had good chances, but was unable to take advantage of them, with the exception of Ali Ahmed’s equalizer (60′). An own goal from Whitecaps defender Edier Ocampo (8th) as well as goals from Rodrigo de Paul (71st) and Tadeo Allende (90th + 6th) on assists from Messi sealed the defeat.
For Miamiwhich has only been taking part in MLS operations since the 2020 season, it is the first championship title. Club boss David Beckham said after the game that they had promised the fans “that we would bring in the best players and therefore success. It will continue next year, but today we are celebrating.”
