For Gael Monfils, 2026 will be his last season as a professional tennis player. In addition to Stan Wawrinka, who will also be celebrating his departure from professional tennis in the next twelve months, another great tennis personality is leaving. To get in the right mood for the last start of the season of his career, Monfils posed with his daughter in a superhero costume as “Black Panther”.

“In their eyes I am a superhero and can take on the entire world,” Gael Monfils explained the image in his Instagram post. The daughter of the former top ten player and Elina Svitolina asked her father for a picture together as superheroes before leaving.

Gael Monfils as defending champion Auckland at the start

It is likely to be one of the last relaxed moments for the Frenchman, whose start to the season is anything but a relaxed end to his career. At the first tournament of the new season, Monfils will start as defending champion at the ATP 250 in Auckland. The final win against Zizou Bergs gave the 39-year-old his 13th title on the ATP Tour.

An early elimination could mean a crash in the ATP rankings right at the start of the season. Gael Monfils is currently in 68th place. However, a crash in the ATP charts shouldn’t have too big of an impact, as wildcards for a final rendezvous with the fans shouldn’t be a problem at most tournaments.
