MLB Contract Writer: Expert Sports Content

This December 15 officially marked the end of the 2024–25 international signing period of Major League Baseball (MLB)a key stage for the development of young talent at the global level, and where Cuba once again had a significant presence, highlighted journalist Francys Romero on his social networks.

During this period, 41 Cuban-born players signed contracts with MLB organizations, which places the island as fourth country in number of signaturesonly behind the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Mexico.

The figure confirms the continuity of the flow of Cuban talents towards professional baseballdespite the restrictions, migratory obstacles and structural limitations faced by players on the island.

A highly competitive global market

In all, more than 1,000 players from 24 countries have signed deals with MLB franchises. The Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies were the most active organizations, with 48 signings each, while the Washington Nationals were the team with the fewest additions, with 19 players signed.

Cuba’s weight in this market is significant when considering that most Cuban baseball players must develop their careers outside the island’s official systems or emigrate to reach professionalism, unlike other countries with established academies and direct agreements with the MLB.

Cuban talent who continues to pave his way

The presence of 41 Cuban signings reflects not only the historic quality of baseball on the island, but also the ability of its young talents to adapt to an increasingly competitive international scenario.

For many of them, these signings represent the first step towards the dream of reaching the Big Leagues, although the path is marked by additional challenges off the field.

With the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, Cuban baseball proves once again that, even due to internal difficulties, it remains a hotbed of talent coveted by MLB organizations.
