Messi Calcutta Visit: Disaster & Fallout

On Saturday there were major disturbances at the Salt Lake Stadium in Calcutta, India, due to the poor organization of one of the events of the tour that the footballer Lionel Messi is carrying out in the country. The ticket cost around 110 euros, but Messi only remained on the pitch for about twenty minutes, always surrounded by the organizers and therefore barely visible. Hundreds of fans invaded the pitch, while others uprooted seats from the stands and threw them, along with other objects.

Satadru Dutta, the organizer of the event, was arrested by police, and the governor of West Bengal (the Indian state that includes Calcutta) Mamata Banerjee said she would refund the price of the tickets. Something similar had already happened last year in Hong Kong.
