Mbappé PSG Dispute: Tribunal Ruling & € Millions

The Paris industrial tribunal must render its decision on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in the dispute worth several hundred million euros between Kylian Mbappé and PSG after the departure of the star in 2024, a case which could nevertheless rebound.

Because the four industrial tribunal advisors could decide to postpone the case to a later hearing to benefit from the support of a professional judge – without even mentioning the appeal that each of the two parties would not fail to file in the event of defeat.

The case is complex and highly publicized with two parties demanding colossal sums for compensation for their alleged damage.

Initially, it was Kylian Mbappé who, after having sought in vain to obtain 55 million unpaid salaries and bonuses from the sporting authorities at the end of his contract in the summer of 2024, took PSG before the industrial tribunal.

During the hearing on November 17, the advice of the captain of the Blues demanded 263 million euros from PSG, based in particular on a reclassification of his contract from CDD (fixed-term contract) to CDI (indefinite duration).

They denounced, among other things, dismissal without cause (44.6 million euros), moral harassment and concealed work (twice 37.5 million euros) and even unfair execution of the employment contract (19 million euros).

For its part, the capital club, aware that French labor law protects employees, opted for a counter-attack strategy by demanding a total of 440 million euros from its former striker, now at Real Madrid.

– Institution –

The club relies on the established existence, according to it, of a verbal agreement between the two parties in the summer of 2023 so that the player, expected to leave free – that is to say without transfer compensation for PSG – does not financially harm his employer “after the exceptional investment made”.

He claims 180 million euros for what he considers to be a concealment by the player of this agreement, a further 180 million for the loss of chance to transfer him, 60 million for bad faith in the execution of the agreement and 20 million for damage to the image.

After attempts at conciliation, it is now a matter of protecting the institution in the face of player behavior deemed unfair, explains a person close to PSG management. The club welcomed last weekend that the court of appeal had rejected an appeal by Mbappé against the cancellation of the precautionary seizure of 55 million euros carried out on PSG’s accounts.

Opposite, the lawyers of the star of the France team and Real Madrid emphasize that “Mr. Mbappé does not make any exceptional request and only requests the application of labor law, like any employee”.

The dispute has poisoned relations between the two parties for two and a half years. The striker, at PSG since the summer of 2017, was sidelined from the professional group at the start of the 2023-2024 season by PSG because he wanted to complete his contract without extending it. A choice which deprived the Parisian club of a juicy transfer fee.

Mbappé was finally reinstated after the first day of the championship. But when the leaders were informed, in February 2024, of the confirmation of his upcoming departure, the relationship cooled a little further.

The departure of the top scorer in the club’s history took place in the spring, without pomp or other public event than the organization, by the “ultras” of the Auteuil stand, of a tribute lasting a few minutes after a match.
