After a complicated start, Rik de Mil won his first victory on the bench of La Gantoise, this Saturday against Westerlo. A success which brings the Buffalos to just one length of the top 6.
An almost perfect evening, overshadowed by the serious injury to Matisse Samoise at the end of the match. Trying to pass Tuur Rommens on his right side, the Gant player collapsed, alone, and left the field in tears.
In a press conference after the match, Rik de Mil logically feared the worst, recalling that “everyone who knows football knows that it is never a good sign when a player gets injured alone.”
Very bad news confirmed for Matisse Samoise
The coach’s fears were confirmed by the club in a press release this Sunday. Matisse Samoise suffers from a torn cruciate ligament and will be sidelined for nine months.
A big blow for the 24-year-old and for Ghent, who had already lost Mathias Delorge to injury. Having undergone ankle surgery, the midfielder will miss three months of competition and should return for the Play-Offs.
