Chessminton is a combination of chess and badminton that requires both mental and physical performance. A match consists of two blitz games of chess and two badminton sets up to eleven points each. The points from both disciplines are added together – whoever gets more points overall wins the match. Concentration, tactical skill and sporting endurance are equally crucial.

German Chessminton Championship: Hockenheim duo wins runner-up title

The tournament in Worms was well attended: participants not only came from the region, but from all over Germany. In this demanding field, Martin Wühl competed in both doubles and singles in the over 45 age group. On the first day alone he completed seven competitions, which involved 14 chess games and 14 badminton sets – an enormous physical and mental strain.

Despite this intensity, Wühl managed to defeat several opponents who play up to four levels higher in badminton than DJK Hockenheim – a circumstance that makes his title win all the more remarkable. A look at the previous year underlines his consistency: in 2024 he took third place in singles and won the title in doubles in the over-35 age group.

DJKler Carsten Herwig also showed a strong performance. Together with Wühl he won the runner-up title.
