It is one of the highlights of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The opening ceremony is always an event that marks the launch of a period of celebration, harmony and sport. In 2024, France had struck minds and retinas with the performances, in particular, of Lady Gaga, Gojira and especially Céline Dion on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower to launch the Paris Games.
Less than two months before the start of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which will be held from Friday February 6 to Sunday February 22, 2026, the casting for the opening ceremony is revealed a little.
This Monday, December 15, Italian organizers announced the name of the first star who will perform during the ceremony on February 6, 2026 at the San Siro Olympic Stadium in Milan. This is the American singer Mariah Carey. The singer of the Christmas hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” will be “a major musical icon of the ceremony,” said a press release.
“Recognized worldwide for her inimitable voice and for a musical legacy that spans generations and cultures, Mariah Carey perfectly embodies the emotional spirit of the Games,” the press release continued.
The organizers announce “an unforgettable experience”
The main theme of the opening ceremony is also revealed and will be dedicated to “Harmony”. “This principle will take shape through a meeting of cultures, creativity and participation. Sport, with its values of equality, respect and inclusion, amplifies this narrative, transforming Harmony into a shared experience. Together, music and sport will bring to life an Olympic Opening Ceremony where Harmony becomes an expression of collective energy, a symbolic space where communities come together, transcend boundaries and recognize each other as part of the same vibrant momentum of the Winter Olympics. »
The Ceremony, created and produced by Balich Wonder Studio, will be “an unforgettable experience”: “a collective embrace weaving together the Italian spirit, innovation, emotion and performances from world-renowned artists.” A unique event designed to surprise, unite and leave lasting memories with audiences around the world.”
