The German Badminton Association (DBV) awards Marc Krieger as Coach of the Year 2025. With this honor, the DBV recognizes a trainer who combines professional excellence, exceptional commitment and great human strength in an exemplary manner.
Marc Krieger has been active in badminton training since 2007. During this time he has consistently completed all license levels up to the A trainer license. After two years as a full-time coach at BLV NRW, he moved to 1. BC Beuel in 2016, where he has since worked as head coach and sporting director of the Badminton Academy Bonn-Beuel. He is currently rounding off his extensive training by studying to become a qualified trainer at the Cologne Trainer Academy.
Marc’s coaching career is characterized by remarkable dedication and clear decisions. He consciously swapped a secure professional perspective after completing a dual course of study at Siemens for a career as a full-time badminton coach. International internships in Malaysia and Denmark underline his commitment to continuous development and to incorporate new impulses into his daily work. With extraordinary commitment – including regular morning training from 6 a.m. – he accompanies athletes from early juniors to the threshold of the Bundesliga.
The sporting results speak for themselves:
Under Marc’s leadership, 1. BC Beuel has established itself as one of the strongest youth locations in Germany. Since 2016, the club has achieved four titles in seven events at the German Youth Team Championship, as well as a silver and a bronze medal. Numerous individual successes underline the sustainable development work, including the German championship title O19 by Brid Stepper, the runner-up title O19 by Sanjeevi Padmanabhan Vasudevan, DM silver U22 for Til Gatzsche and the German runner-up title in the men’s doubles U19 by Ole Schroth. At the WDM U19, Beuel was also the strongest club at the event. Several athletes – including Til Gatzsche, Ole Schroth and Eva Heiden – are currently on the threshold of the 1st Bundesliga.
What has particularly distinguished Marc Krieger in recent months has been his consistent desire for further development despite high professional stress, the sustained performance development of numerous athletes and his ability to support young players individually, with commitment and responsibility. It not only shapes sporting successes, but also creates an environment in which talents are challenged, supported and enthusiastic about the sport of badminton in the long term.
By electing Marc Krieger as Coach of the Year 2025, the DBV is honoring a personality who exemplifies the values of German badminton sport and who particularly meets the criteria of the award – from professional competence to social and educational action to exceptional commitment.
