Amazon has released the first teaser for David O. Russell’s football biopic “Madden”. Thanksgiving 2026 is announced as a release. It remains to be seen whether only in the stream or in the cinema. Nicolas Cage plays the title role of legendary football coach John Madden.
“There is only one John Madden” – that’s what a barely recognizable person says Christian Bale in the first teaser for “Madden,” David O. Russell’s biopic about legendary football coach John Madden, who coached the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League and is considered one of the best coaches in NFL history. Bale plays former Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis. is the title character Nicolas Cage – whose look and outfit corresponds almost exactly to the real Madden (Will Ferrell and Hugh Jackman were originally also in discussion for the role). The ensemble also includes: John Mulaney, Kathryn Hahn, Shane Gillis and Sienna Miller.
Russell’s film follows Madden’s career as a football commentator after his coaching stint (culminating in the Super Bowl with the Oakland Raiders) and his subsequent collaboration with EA Sports (Escape Artists) to develop the groundbreaking Madden NFL video game series.
The first script by Cambron Clark David O. Russell has completely rewrote it. Russell was most recently in cinemas with “Amsterdam”. In addition to Amazon MGM Studios, the producers of “Madden” also include Escape Artists and Skydance Sports.
In 2024, Prime Video already had the documentary series “It’s in the Game: Madden NFL”.
David O. Russell is currently working on various interesting-sounding projects. These include a biopic about singer Linda Ronstadt (reportedly starring Selena Gomez), the comedy “Super Toys” with Sasha Baron Cohen and Keke Palmer and the series “Bananas” with Oscar Isaac and Ana de Armas.
