The mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, inaugurated this morning the renovated basketball court on the Alberto Jiménez-Becerril avenue, a highly anticipated sports space in the Macarena neighborhood that, after years of abandonment, is once again open to the public, fully recovered. Players from Caja87 also attended the event, representing Sevillian basketball.
During the inauguration, Sanz underlined the value of sport as a tool for coexistence and social development: “Neighborhood courts are authentic schools of life; places where our children and young people find a healthy alternative, where community is built and where sport acts as a powerful tool for social integration,” he stated.
The mayor highlighted that the City Council is committed to improving the city’s sports facilities, convinced that “investing in decent infrastructure means investing in health, education, equal opportunities and the future.”
The inaugurated track now has new approved baskets, a protection network long demanded by the neighbors and the complete painting of the entire surface, actions that return to the space the security and image it deserved.
Sanz especially appreciated the presence of Caja87 players, pointing out that “basketball is a sport deeply rooted in Seville, which has produced great names, great teams and thousands of fans who live it with passion. It is a pride to have today representatives of a club that symbolizes sporting excellence.”
The mayor also wanted to insist that the track is everyone’s space: “This track does not belong to the City Council; it belongs to the neighborhood, it belongs to the children, the young people, the elderly, all the residents of Macarena. Our commitment now is to maintain it, take care of it together and fill it with life, sport and good times.”
Finally, José Luis Sanz declared the facility officially inaugurated “with the hope of continuing to build dreams and projects for the future,” inviting residents to enjoy this renewed meeting and sports space today.
