Grémio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense officially announced the hiring of Luís Castro as the new head coach. The Portuguese coach signed a contract valid for two seasons, until the end of 2027, beginning a new chapter in command of the Gaucho emblem.

Six members of his coaching staff also arrive with Luís Castro: assistant coaches Vítor Severino and Pedro Mané, goalkeeper trainer Daniel Correia, performance analyst Nuno Baptista and physical trainers Roberto Júnior and Nuno Cerdeira.

Born in Vila Real, near the city of PortoLuís Manuel Ribeiro de Castro, aged 64, began his career in football as a player, representing clubs such as Vitória de Guimarães, União de Leiria and Águeda, where he ended his career and began his career as a coach in 1998.

In Portugal, he passed through Sanjoanense, Penafiel, Mealhada and Estarreja, before joining the structure of FC Portoin 2006, where he remained for a decade. At the blue and white club, he won the unprecedented Second League title with FC Porto B and even guided the main team on some occasions.

Experiences followed at Rio Ave, Chaves and Vitória de Guimarães, before moving to Shakhtar Donetsk, where he won the Ukrainian championship in his first season. He later coached Al-Duhail, winning the Emir of Qatar Cup, and had his first experience in Brazil playing for Botafogo, with whom he won the Rio Cup in 2023.

After a spell at Al-Nassr, where he won the Arab Champions League, and more recently at Al-Wasl, in the United Arab Emirates, Luís Castro becomes the second European coach in history to take charge of Grémio, after the Hungarian László Székely, in 1954.
