Luis Castro accepted Grêmio’s offer. The 64-year-old Portuguese is now just waiting for the revised contract to be sent to him to be announced as the team’s coach for two years. Six professionals will join him to join his technical committee.
The coach’s trip to Brazil has not yet been scheduled, but the parties are already evaluating Grêmio’s preparation for the beginning of 2026. After leaving Al Wasl, the professional is still in Dubai.
Along with the coach, Vitor Severino (assistant), Nuno Baptista (analyst), Pedro Mané (analyst), Betinho (physical trainer), Nuno Cerdeira (physical trainer) and Daniel Correia (goalkeeper trainer) will arrive at the club.
The current planning for 2026 will be discussed in the coming days with the technical committee. The re-presentation of the group of players is scheduled for January 2nd.
The idea was to use a mixed team for the start of Gauchão, with young people and athletes from the main team in better physical condition. But Luís Castro will have carte blanche to adapt this planning.
In initial conversations with the Portuguese, Grêmio also heard the need to seek reinforcements for some positions considered fundamental. A defender with a good pass, a first midfielder to make the ball possible, a midfielder who organizes the game. A goalkeeper, Weverton from Palmeiras is the target, will also have his signing debated.
