Attracting 31 competitions and 12 training camps per year, economic effect of 12.7 billion won
[로컬세계 = 이남규 기자] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 6th that it has completed all sports competition schedules for 2025 with the ‘Millennium of Light Glory Tennis Tournament’.
The county hosted 31 competitions and 12 training camps throughout the year, with approximately 120,000 visitors, and the economic effect is estimated at approximately 12.7 billion won. It is assessed that the recovery of the local sports industry, starting with the 63rd Jeonnam Sports Festival, which was held 15 years after the decline in sports competitions after COVID-19, was effective.
The national level competition was expanded to a total of 10 events, with the existing middle and high school basketball competitions, college taekwondo competitions, and life boxing competitions being newly included. The number of visitors reached approximately 82,000, and an economic effect of approximately 8.2 billion won was achieved.
Provincial competitions and sports events also contributed to expanding the base. About 7,000 people participated in seven Jeollanam-do competitions, including wrestling, badminton, and park golf, and the economic effect was calculated to be about 700 million won. In addition, new events involving citizen participation, such as a community sports festival and a community gymnastics and dance festival, were opened.
Attracting off-season training camps also yielded results. About 29,000 people from 12 teams in 6 sports, including soccer, tennis, and badminton, visited the county, creating an economic effect of about 2.9 billion won. Yeonggwang-gun received an institutional commendation for three consecutive years in Jeonnam Province’s field training evaluation.
Yeonggwang-gun strengthened its status as a sports city by hosting five major sports festivals in succession, including last year’s Jeonnam Sports Festival and this year’s Sports Festival. This year, he placed 2nd overall at the Jeonnam Sports Festival and 3rd overall at the Sports Festival for the Disabled.
The county plans to strengthen sports marketing next year to hold more than 32 competitions and attract 150,000 visitors. Starting with the winter soccer stove league, national competitions in boxing, table tennis, basketball, and taekwondo will be held sequentially.
