Liga MX vs. Brazilian Teams: Stats & History

Liga MX teams have had notable participation in international competitions against Brazilian clubs, mainly in the Copa Libertadores (where Mexico was invited from 1998 to 2016), the Copa Sudamericana (2005-2008) and the Club World Cup (occasionally).

In 2017, the calendar change (January-November) collided with the Liga MX (July-May), affecting preparation and television broadcasts. Mexico opted for the Concacaf Champions Cup.

These duels raised the level of Mexican soccer, attracting stars such as Ronaldinho (to Querétaro post Libertadores) and improving signings (as in the case of André-Pierre Gignac to Tigres UANL who arrived directly to play the 2015 final against River Plate). Brazil has dominated the Libertadores since 2019 (seven titles in a row).

Although Mexican clubs never won the prestigious Copa Libertadores, they reached three finals (Cruz Azul in 2001, Chivas in 2010 and Tigres UANL in 2015), all lost to South American rivals (one of them against Brazilians: International in 2010).

The overall record is balanced, with a slight disadvantage for the Mexicans, but with memorable performances such as wins in the knockout phases and key victories in the previous format of the Club World Cup.

Next, we will mention the record and statistics of these confrontations.
