Leuven End-of-Year Corridor: 7,000 Participants – Review

7,000 sports enthusiasts ended their year on Sunday morning with the traditional end-of-year corrida in Leuven. At half past nine the first runners were already warming up on the Ladeuzeplein. First it was the turn of the little ones, the runners under 9 years old, to give the best of themselves.

Walked very fast? “-Yes, faster than my daddy.”

Then it is the turn of the adults. They had the choice between 4, 8 or 12 kilometers. Obtaining a starting number was not easy. All 7,000 tickets were sold out in just a week. The eight and twelve kilometers even in less than two days. So those with a ticket considered themselves very lucky.

And the corrida wouldn’t be the corrida without a lot of atmosphere along the route. There were people wearing fire suits, the firefighters from the East Emergency Zone. They ran for the Rinus pini fund, a charity that supports families dealing with the loss of a child.

“Most of us are trained, but despite that, we are not in the habit of walking with it.”
