Hernández boosted the reaction after two outs and broke the rival’s lead with timely hits that sealed his team’s victory at the Julián Javier Stadium. With the result, the Lions, national and Caribbean champions, maintain a perfect 3-0 record and remain firmly at the head of the round robin. The Giants, for their part, suffered their third consecutive loss.
In Santiago de los Caballeros, Luis Liberato went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs to lead the Toros del Este to a 7-6 victory over the Águilas Cibaeñas. With the victory, the Bulls improved their record to 2-1, while the Eagles fell to 1-2.
Caguas advance to the semifinals with a shutout in the wild card game
The Criollos de Caguas secured the last ticket to the postseason of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League by beating the Indios de Mayagüez 4-0 this Monday in the Wild Card game, a result that confirmed that the league will have a new champion this season.
José de León led the shutout with six and a third innings of just three hits, five strikeouts and no runs allowed, while Luke Taggart and Yacksel Ríos completed the job from the bullpen. On offense, MJ Meléndez hit a solo home run and Caguas scored three runs in the fourth inning to lead to victory.
With the defeat, Mayagüez was eliminated along with the San Juan Senators. The semifinal series, best of seven games, will begin on January 2, with Caguas visiting Santurce and Ponce hosting Carolina.
Tigres hit first in the wild card series for the last ticket
The Tigres de Aragua beat the Caribes de Anzoátegui 5-4 this Monday to take advantage in the best-of-three series, which defines the last classified for the postseason of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.
David Rodríguez drove in a run with a double, José Pirela added another with a single and Alberth Martínez drove in one more with a hit in the eighth inning, to seal the victory for the Tigers, who still need to win an additional game to ensure their place in the postseason.
In the next phase, the Cardenales de Lara, Bravos de Margarita, Navegantes del Magallanes and Águilas del Zulia await, qualified to play the round robin round.
Guasave advances to the postseason in Mexico
Esteban Quiróz hit an RBI single for the decisive run in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Algodoneros de Guasave defeated the Tucson Baseball Team 3-2 to achieve the last berth to the postseason with one day remaining in the Mexican Pacific League.
Tucson, in its first participation in the competition, joins the Venados de Mazatlán as the only two that will not be in the postseason.
In Mexicali, Julián Ornelas went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the Charros de Jalisco to a 4-3 victory over the Águilas.
In Mazatlán, Santiago Gómez hit a single in the bottom of the 10th inning to leave the Cañeros de Los Mochis on the field, and the Venados achieved a 3-2 victory that tastes little after their elimination the day before.
In Hermosillo, Víctor Mendoza went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, while José Gaitán and Santiago Chávez hit solo home runs to give the Yaquis of Ciudad Obregón a 7-1 victory over the Naranjeros.
In Nayarit, Orlando Martínez went 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs, Joey Meneses went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and JP Martínez hit a solo home run in the Tomateros de Culiacán’s 10-8 victory over the Jaguares.
