The Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics are approaching. In honor of this, a special wall of the “Latvija” team with images of athletes was opened on Monday. For now, with those athletes who have already qualified for the Games.

Before last year’s Olympic Games in Paris, the special wall of Olympians, which ended up in the Sports Museum, became a tradition. Latvia hopes to take the largest delegation in history to the Winter Games in Milan-Cortina. Currently, nine Latvian athletes have officially jumped on the Olympic train – all of them are ice skaters in their own sport.
Reinis Bērziņš and Roberts Krūzbergs will represent Latvia in short track. In his debut four years ago in Beijing, Kreuzberg finished ninth.
“That excitement [toreiz] was so big that it felt real ice and speed [nejutu]. So I will try to focus more on that this time [konkrēto] race to feel and not to overdo it,” said Kruzbergs in an interview with Latvian Television about the upcoming start at the Winter Olympic Games.
Since the Beijing Games, both of our short track athletes have won an award-winning place for the highest competition. Unlike the hockey hall, which the Italians are in a hurry to finish at an incredible speed, the short track hall was ready already last year. Latvians also got to know the technical nuances of short track before the Olympics.
“You have to work on bending the skates all the time – during training, that bending changes. That was what I put the most emphasis on this season, because that’s when I feel the best,” explains the nuances of his preparation.
In the first days of next year, the national hockey team of Latvia will announce its composition, but we will find out the names of all Olympians on January 19.
