The Latvian Biathlon Team is ready for the 2026 Olympic Games
The Latvian Biathlon Union (LBF) has approved the composition of the Latvian biathlon team for participation in the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, which will be held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. As the NRA portal informs, the main favorites and team leaders will be the experienced Andrejs Rastorgujevs and Baiba Bendika. This will be Rastorgujev’s fourth Olympic experience, and Bendika’s third. Previously approved regulations were used for the selection, evaluating the results of the athletes in the World Cup and IBU Cup competitions. Latvia is provided with four quotas each in men’s and women’s competition.
Olympic Team And Debut
Andrejs Rastorgujevs, Renārs Birkentāls, Rihards Lozbers and Edgars Mise will compete in the men’s team. This will be Rastorguyev’s fourth Olympic Games, having previously competed in Vancouver, Sochi and PyeongChang. On the other hand, Birkentahls, Lozbers and Mise will debut at the Olympic Games. In the women’s competition, Baiba Bendika will participate in her third Olympic Games, while Estere Wolfa, Sanita Buliņa and Annie Keita Sabule will represent Latvia in the Olympic Games for the first time. In total, eight athletes are included in the Latvian biathlon team.
Coaching And Support Staff
A professional team of trainers and support staff will take care of the preparation of the Latvian biathlon team. Kārlis Vanags has been appointed as the head coach of the men’s national team, while Agnese Caune will lead the women’s team. Valdis Bērzins will be the assistant coach, Vasilijs Mukshins will be responsible for shooting technique, and Per Ulafs Treteruds will be responsible for mental preparation. Reinis Korsūnovs, Edgars Piksons and Úle Bjerns Treteruds will work in the service team.
Events and dates of the Olympic Games
The biathlon competition at the 2026 Olympic Games will take place on the Anterseva track from February 8 to 21. The Olympic Games as a whole will be held in Northern Italy from February 6 to 22 in six clusters – Milan, Anterselva, Cortina, Bormio, Livigno and Predaco-Tesero.
