It’s no longer a secret: Lamine Yamal has a slight penchant for French rap. MHD, La Mano, Jul… The FC Barcelona prodigy regularly uses music from French-speaking rappers to accompany his Instagram stories. The 18-year-old striker proved it again this Sunday evening during the Globe Soccer Awards ceremony.
Twice awarded during this awards ceremony organized by the ECA (European Club Association) and the EFAA (European Association of Players’ Agents) on the same model as the Ballon d’Or or the Fifa “The Best” trophies, Yamal was crowned best striker of the year. He also won the Maradona Award, recognizing the most talented player of the past season.
“I forget everything” before a Clasico
Present in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), the 2024 European champion met Redouane Bougheraba. The latter invited the jewel of world football to make the famous distinctive sign of Jul, which he did not hesitate to do. “With the machine, the machina, Ju-Ju-Jul,” said the Marseille comedian in a video published as a story on Instagram, in which Yamal appears all smiles.
On May 11, 2025, a few moments before a decisive Clasico for Barça against Real Madrid in La Liga, the runner-up of the last Ballon d’Or arrived at the Montjuïc stadium with a speaker broadcasting the song “I forget everything” by Jul. A title released in 2014, when the Spanish winger was only… six years old, supporting the thesis that the latter would be a real fan of the Marseille rapper.
Much more serious when he went on stage to collect his Awards, Yamal gave a very sober speech: “Thank you to the Globe Soccer Awards for this award, to my family, my club, my teammates, my friends. I am very happy.”
