“Liepāja” celebrated the victory of “Optibet” in the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LIBL) game in Ogre on Friday, ending a streak of seven losses, “Ventspils” won against Keila’s “Coolbet” while “University of Latvia” (LU) suffered a loss in Tartu.
“Liepāja” defeated “Ogri” with 83:76 (15:21, 20:18, 25:18, 23:19).
For the winners, Xavier Dassel scored 20 points, Henrik Bayar scored 13 points, while Edvards Egle and Vitaly Šimanskis scored 11 points each, who also had seven rebounds.
Anders Nelson and Justin Ndjok-Tojare scored 14 points each for the Ogre players, who also had eight rebounds, while team captain Kristaps Dargais collected 13 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.
In the last six matches, the Ogre players had experienced four failures, in the last game they lost to the tournament leader “University of Tartu”/”Maks & Moorits” with 59:65. The Liepaja team had not won in seven games in a row.
With five wins in 12 games, the Ogre team is in eighth place in the tournament table, while “Liepāja” is ninth with a 3-8 record.
Meanwhile, “Ventspils” defeated Keila’s team on the road with the result 81:80 (25:25, 19:18, 17:20, 20:17).
Artūrs Aušējs and Roberts Bērze scored 19 points each for the guests, while Bryant Thomas had 16 points. Ronald Zacis had nine points and seven rebounds, while Cameron Shelton had seven points and eight assists.
Mario Spaleta scored 21 points for the hosts.
“Ventspils” is in sixth place with seven wins in 11 matches, while “Coolbet” has won two out of ten matches and is in 11th position.
LU lost 86:103 (26:30, 21:28, 21:23, 18:22) to the tournament leader “University of Tartu”/”Maks & Moorits” on the road.
Brody Fox collected 20 points and five rebounds in the LU team, Jura Melikyans scored 19 points and 12 rebounds, Francis Neilands scored 13 points and Marlon Shortts, who also had five rebounds, while Rūdis Donis scored 11 points.
In the Tartu team, Bryce McBride scored 21 points, Rauno Nurger scored 15 points, Markus Ilvers collected 14 points and six rebounds, and Carl Johan Lipps scored 13 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.
The basketball players of the “University of Tartu”/”Maks & Moorits” team have not yet experienced a single failure this season, achieving 11 victories in a row, but LU has not achieved victories in the last ten matches.
The Tartu team is the leader of the tournament with 11 successes in the same matches, while LU is the last in the 14-team competition with ten losses.
