New York Knicks have won the third edition of the NBA Cup. In the final, San Antonio Spurs, with star player Victor Wembanyama, were sidelined: 124-113.
As a result, the Knicks players go to Christmas dinner with a significant bonus. All players will be paid more than half a million euros.
The Knicks dominated on the board (59 for 42 rebounds) and also scored more points (56 for 44), but the Spurs were in the lead for a long time. With a run of 13 points to one, the New York Knicks finally took the lead (100-95), after which the gap only became three points once.
Knicks player Jalen Brunson scored 100 points in the last three knockout games (including the final) and was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
Afterwards he was very satisfied that his team won the match. “It was an ugly game. But we stayed focused and that was important.”
Wembanyama burst into tears during the press conference after the match. Not because of the lost match, but the French superstar said that someone close to him had died on the day of the final.
Knicks are the third winners of the NBA Cup. Previous editions were won by the LA Lakers (2023) and the Milwaukee Bucks (2024).
