Karlos Vémola: Hospitalized After Injury & Surgery

Czech wrestler Karel (“Karlos”) Vémola, who was sent to custody by the court last week on charges of particularly serious organized crime related to drugs, underwent jaw surgery on Tuesday. TASR informs about this according to the Novinky.cz portal report.

The wrestler was operated on at the dental surgery department of the General Faculty Hospital in Prague. He completed the pre-operative examinations already on Monday morning. Vémola was arrested last week on Tuesday during a raid on his house in the village of Měchenice near Prague. On that very day, he was supposed to enter the hospital for an operation related to acute inflammation of the jaw.

His lawyer Vlastimil Rampula said over Christmas that Vémol’s problem persists. He made this statement after the Prague court imposed a bond on the wrestler for fear of a possible escape. In addition to 40-year-old Vémol, the police detained two other men, but one of them was supposed to be released. All three are accused of particularly serious organized crime related to drugs on an international scale. They face 18 years in prison.

For mixed martial arts (MMA) Vémol, this is not his first drug-related run-in with the law. In the past, he was already convicted of a drug crime in Britain, for which he was in prison for several months.
