Former world cycling champion Johan Museeuw (60) has been admitted to hospital in Kortrijk with breathing problems. The Lion of Flanders has already announced that examinations of his heart revealed no problems. “Everything is still okay with the engine.”

“I am not on my bike, but I am in the hospital,” Johan Museeuw said on Instagram. “I’ve been having breathing problems for the past few weeks.”

The Lion of Flanders, who won the Tour of Flanders three times and Paris-Roubaix three times, had his heart checked just to be sure. “It’s still fantastically good in there,” he says. “The engine of the Lion is still okay.”

Museeuw doesn’t yet know what the problem is. “I probably have something wrong with my lungs. Is it a recent remnant of Covid? I don’t know. They are still investigating that.”

Museeuw celebrated his 60th birthday in October.
